The demand for cancer care is expected to increase and a shortage of oncologists is also expected to persist. Advanced practice providers (APPs), whose education and training is focused on health promotion, disease prevention, and primary care medical management, will be increasingly used to meet this growing demand for oncology providers. However, there are limited oncology focused APP training programs that fully equip a new provider to provide competent care in this complex area of medicine.
